Slip and Fall

You didn’t plan for this. A wet floor, a broken step, a patch of uneven pavement — and suddenly you’re dealing with medical bills, missed work, and a body that doesn’t feel like yours anymore.

If someone else’s negligence caused that fall, California law gives you the right to pursue compensation.

One Moment. Weeks of Consequences.

Property owners in California have a legal responsibility to keep their premises reasonably safe. That applies to grocery stores, apartment complexes, commercial parking lots, hotel lobbies, and public walkways alike. When maintenance gets skipped, hazards go unreported, or warnings never get posted, people get hurt.

The injuries from a slip and fall aren’t always obvious right away. A hip fracture, a concussion, a spinal injury — some of these take days to fully surface. And while you’re still figuring out what’s wrong, insurance adjusters may already be in contact, hoping you’ll accept a fast, low settlement before you understand what you’re actually owed.

That’s where Desert Injury Law comes in. We’ve seen how these cases unfold, how insurers minimize claims, and what it takes to push back effectively. Our job is to make sure the compensation you pursue actually reflects your losses — not what’s convenient for the other side.

Why Choose Us

A slip and fall can quietly take apart the routine you've built — your ability to work, to move, to handle basic responsibilities. The financial pressure builds fast. Desert Injury Law handles the full scope of your claim so that you're not left managing it alone.

A Record of Proven Results

We've recovered compensation for clients hurt in retail stores, apartment buildings, restaurants, and on public property. No two cases are identical, but the standard of preparation we bring stays the same. Evidence gets gathered early, liability gets established carefully, and your documented losses get taken seriously.

No Fee Unless We Win

Every case we take is handled on a contingency fee basis. You pay nothing unless we recover for you. That structure keeps our interests aligned with yours — we're motivated to get you the most we can, not just the quickest resolution.

Trial-Ready Representation

Some law firms settle because they have to. We prepare every case as if it's going to trial, because that preparation changes the dynamic in negotiations. Insurance companies respond differently when they know the other side is ready to litigate. That difference often shows up in the final number.

Where We Can Help

Desert Injury Law serves clients across California, including the Coachella Valley, greater Los Angeles, the Inland Empire, San Diego County, and communities throughout the state. Slip and fall accidents happen everywhere — retail parking lots, hotel corridors, apartment stairways, restaurant floors, public parks.

Wherever your fall occurred, the legal questions are often the same: who controlled the property, did they know about the hazard, and how long had it been there? We investigate those questions, gather the records and documentation that matter, handle communication with insurers, and guide you through every stage of the process — from the initial consultation to resolution. You won’t be handed off to a paralegal and left to wonder what’s happening with your case. You’ll have real access to the people working on it.

Faq

1.

How much time do I have to file a slip and fall claim in California?

Generally two years from the date of the injury. If the fall happened on government property — a public sidewalk, a city-owned building — the deadline shrinks to six months, and the notice requirements are different. These windows close regardless of how your recovery is going, so waiting tends to hurt more than it helps.
2.

What should I do right after a fall?

Get checked out medically, even if you feel like you're okay. If it's safe to do so, photograph the hazard before anything gets cleaned up. Report the fall to whoever manages or owns the property and ask for a written record of the incident. Hold off on giving statements to any insurance company until you've had a chance to speak with an attorney.
3.

Does it matter where the fall happened?

Yes, in a few ways. Government property comes with shorter filing windows and different procedures. Your legal status at the time — were you a customer, a guest, a trespasser — affects how liability is analyzed. A fall in a commercial space is handled differently than one on a private residential property.
4.

How is the value of a slip and fall claim calculated?

It depends on what you actually lost. Medical expenses, future treatment costs, income you weren't able to earn, and long-term impact on your ability to work are all factored in. Pain and suffering is also part of it. The stronger your documentation, the more accurately those numbers can be argued.
5.

Will my case go to trial?

Probably not — most settle. But the reason they settle well, when they do, is that the preparation behind them is solid. Having attorneys who are genuinely ready to litigate tends to produce better outcomes even before a courtroom gets involved.
